Chicas a Mujeres

Have you asked when and how you should have specific talks with your child? Do you feel ready to talk about sexuality, gender norms, menstrual cycles, etc?

If the answer is no, Chicas a Mujeres is the program for you.


Join us for a series of workshops and listening circles.

A class for Mother figures and Daughters ages 10-17 years old.

In collaboration with Boys to Men and the YWCA Southern Arizona a new program to help building communication skills between Mothers and Daughters.

Promotoras

Year-long training institute in Spanish for women who wish to become advocates for other women experiencing gender violence. The Promotora program includes training in leadership and community organizing and legal rights for immigrants. Participants receive training in prevention/intervention in domestic violence (October), sexual violence ( April), and stalking (January). Each training is 4 days long, Monday to Thursday from 9am-12pm. Participants also participate in “know your rights” training for immigrant communities. This is a hands-on leadership training course in which participants cultivate and practice their leadership skills while they raise social awareness on gender violence and issues that impact immigrant communities.


Mi Vida and Mi Carrera

A 12-week program divided into two parts:


Week 1-6: Personal Empowerment

This personal development program helps Latinas find resources to stabilize their lives, as well as build their own strengths and self-confidence. Confidence and independence will be cultivated for each individual, preparing to begin planning and prioritizing to successfully fulfill their dreams and goals.

Week 6-12: Professional Empowerment

Designed to identify the professional development needs of women who are unemployed, looking to open a business, or go back to school. The intention of this program is to help the participant to have self-confidence and obtain the necessary skills in their professional development. During this class, participants will be paired with professionals in the community for career counseling. In Mi Carrera participants learn to:

  • Establish priorities, goals and the steps to follow them
  • Identify professional interests

Las Comadritas

Providing social activities and nutritious meals to low-income seniors in South Tucson


Las Comadritas are a group of older folks who come together each week for socialization, gardening, exercise, healthy meals, crafts, and Bingo! Although the program has been established for over four decades, we are always looking to welcome more people.


Join us for light exercise, snacks, bingo, crafts, and lunch.

The Comadritas gather each Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 12pm starting August.

A Todo Folklór

A todo Folklór is a group of Latina women of all ages who gather to dance. The group arose from the need to create safe spaces to heal and reduce stress through dance, art, culture and connection with nature. A todo Folklór is a means of expression not only physical but also mental that promotes liberation and collective and individual well-being.


Priority given to participants engaged in other YWCA programs.

Divorce Recovery (Spanish)

This program is a support group for people who are ending relationships (divorce or separation) and need help in the transition process. We know that being separated or divorced can be a challenging and often overwhelming experience. If you are confused or hurt, this program can help make the divorce process easier and less traumatic.

English as a Second Language

Quarterly ESL course (two levels: beginner and advance ESL). Priority for placement in the program is given to graduates of Mi Carrera. Free babysitting available for children ages 4 and over, and homework help available for middle school and teens during class hours.

GED Program and Coaching Center

Program collaboration with Pima Community College Adult Education. Semester-long GED course, along with technology and peer mentoring support, taught by Pima Community College Adult education instructors. Participants are not required to have a social security number. This program is free of charge. Priority for placement in the program is given to graduates of Mi Carrera. One-on-One tutoring available.
