Accessible Mental Health Care

The WCN is currently the ONLY place in Southern Arizona where people without insurance or AHCCCS are able to find long-term, professional counseling at no charge.

The Women’s Counseling Network (WCN) was created in 1991 to make long-term personal counseling accessible to every woman, regardless of their ability to pay. Our clients are those who have “fallen through the cracks” of our medical system. They generally do not have medical insurance but don’t qualify for Medicaid (AHCCCS), either.

In 2016 we expanded our services to include LBTQ individuals and in collaboration with Southern Arizona Senior Pride, we offer a weekly Grief Support Group. Through the WCN, folx are able to find the support they need in order to lead more productive, successful and meaningful lives.

The WCN is directed by an experienced, licensed professional counselor, who does initial intake and referrals. Our clients are then placed with a volunteer licensed professional counselor who delivers long-term counseling in their private practice for no charge, or is given outpatient referral to another provider in the community.

Although it is sometimes necessary to be placed on a waiting list, it is our goal to place clients with a counselor immediately.

Here’s what our clients have to say about the WCN:

“Now I feel more empowered in my life!”

“Being here, for me, gave me a boost to feel assisted.”

“Thank you for helping me realize what I needed to realize.”

The WCN is always looking for additional professionally licensed counselors who are willing to volunteer their services to see 1-3 clients pro bono. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help, please email wcn@ywcatucson.org or call 520-884-7810, ext. 109.
