Our organization will celebrate our 95th Anniversary in May 2012, Arizona's Centennial year, and, as has been our practice since 1917, we are adapting our services for Tucson's emerging needs.  Early YWCA services included a residence for women, swimming lessons, health and fitness classes, child day care, and shelter for victims of domestic violence.  The programs of YWCA Tucson have changed as the needs of women have changed and as other community organizations began to offer similar services.  While our current economy continues to challenge all of us, YWCA Tucson Board of Directors has determined that the best way to advance our mission and serve the critical needs or our community is to focus our resources exclusively to improve the outcomes for women and their children in the following areas: Economic self-sufficiency and development Leadership, civic engagement, racial and social justice Educational achievement YWCA programs for young women have been transferred to Sahuaro Girl Scout Council, YWCA's collaboration in the Partnership for Women and Girls.
