PHASE/YWorks
Volunteer Opportunities
The
YWCA’s PHASE/YWorks program is designed to address the
employment needs of women who are unemployed, underemployed or
transitioning in the workforce. This directed and supportive
program, in a female-only environment, will help participants:

Identify
barriers that have kept them from moving forward with their employment
goals
- Build
skills and confidence to help them overcome barriers
- Increase
their ability and willingness to take employment-related risks
- Obtain more
satisfying and higher paying employment
Computer
Class Volunteers
The
computer curriculum of PHASE/YWorks introduces women how to navigate
around Windows, use Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel and
PowerPoint, and how to retrieve information and use email via the
Internet.
Volunteers
are needed to provide one-on-one assistance during the computer class
to help students with basic computer questions. Interested
volunteers should have experience with computers and intermediate
knowledge of how to perform the following tasks:
- Navigate
around Windows, i.e. use scroll bars, resize and position windows
- Use
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint (knowledge of Access also helpful
but not required)
- Browse and
search the Internet and use e-mail
Skills
for Successful Employment Class Volunteers
The Skills
for Successful Employment component of the PHASE/YWorks program is
designed to develop basic skills in career development and employment
search. Activities are design to inspire and build confidence.
Volunteer
speakers are needed for each of the following areas:
- Motivational
speakers to energize the program participants
- Speakers to
share their success stories
- Speakers to
serve on a panel of employers to discuss employment trends
Inspirational
speakers for the program graduation
Volunteer
Career Guidance Specialists are needed to provide individual career
guidance to Skills for Successful Employment program
participants. Career Guidance Specialists must attend all
three of the Skills for Successful Employment sessions and provide
follow-up support on a regular basis with each of the program
participants assigned for six months. Career Guidance
Specialists will receive a stipend for each Skills for Successful
Employment program.
