Applications for the YWCA of Tucson’s Bright Futures

The YWCA Bright Futures Program, now in its 9th year, is a leadership development and scholarship program for young women who will be in their senior year in high school this fall. The young women who participate in Bright Futures have demonstrated a capacity of leadership by overcoming an obstacle or challenge in their lives. The applicant does not need to have an outstanding academic record nor be a member of numerous clubs or organizations.
Bright Futures is designed for young women who are generally overlooked for leadership development and scholarship programs. There is no cost to the applicant or her family to participate in the program. Principals, counselors or teachers may nominate a student for the program. A school may nominate more than one student. Last year, forty-four schools in Pima were represented at the YWCA Bright Futures Program.
Criteria:

Young women in the 12th grade in the fall of 2008
-
GPA between 1.7-3.2
-
Has overcome an obstacle in her life
-
All schools in Pima County may honor a young woman for the program
The young women participating in the program will:

Attend a one-day leadership development seminar, October 2008

Participate in YWCA leadership workshops on leadership, college preparation and life after high school

Be partnered with a female mentor

Honored at the Bright Futures Leadership Program Celebration

Be eligible for one of three $1,000 scholarships
